Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Oracle Corp. on Thursday said their cloud divisions reached a deal for the database giant to sell Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) models through Oracle’s cloud computing services and business applications.

The partnership, similar to one Oracle reached with Elon Musk’s xAI in June, lets businesses and software developers use the Google models and Oracle’s cloud at the same time. Ostensibly, developers can tap into Google’s models to create text, video, images, and audio while using Oracle’s cloud. Conversely, businesses using Oracle’s apps for corporate finances, human resources, and supply chain planning will also be able to use Gemini inside those apps.

“Today, leading enterprises are using Gemini to power AI agents across a range of use cases and industries,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, a former Oracle executive, said in a statement. “Now, Oracle customers can access our leading models from within their Oracle environments, making it even easier for them to begin deploying powerful AI agents that can support developers, streamline data integration tasks, and much more.”

The accord is appealing for both companies’ AI strategy: Google makes further progress in expanding the reach of its cloud offerings and win corporate customers from rivals Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp., while Oracle advances its goal of offering a menu of AI options to customers rather than pushing its own technology.

Oracle’s deal with Google comes amid a backdrop of other news impacting each company’s AI and cloud expansion.

On Wednesday, Google announced it was committing another $9 billion to cloud and AI infrastructure over the next two years. The funds will go towards building a new data center campus in Stillwater, Okla., while expanding an existing one about 100 miles away.

Oracle, meanwhile, has trimmed an unspecified number of jobs within its fast-growing cloud infrastructure business, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources.
