Anthropic revamped its premium subscription lineup on Friday, rebranding its top tiers, and eliminating the rolling five-hour session limit for verified subscribers on its most expensive plan.
Under the updated scheme, the company has renamed its $100-per-month Max 5x tier to Max, while the former Max 20x plan has been rebranded as Ultra at $200 per month. Pricing remains unchanged across both offerings, and existing subscribers will see the adjustments reflected immediately without billing interruptions.
The high-profile update is aimed squarely at the platform’s power users. Previously, subscribers on the $200 plan received 20 times the usage allowance of a standard Pro user within rolling five-hour intervals, locking them out until the window reset. Under the new policy, verified Ultra subscribers can conduct extended, continuous workflows without confronting a mid-session timeout.
The overall weekly volume ceiling remains intact, set at 10 times the Pro plan’s baseline allowance. The policy shift fundamentally alters how subscribers consume their allocation rather than expanding total compute: users can now concentrate heavy compute spikes into single, uninterrupted days rather than pacing their queries against a recurring clock.
A caveat remains for newer sign-ups. To counter potential abuse and account resale, Anthropic confirmed that unverified Ultra accounts will retain a provisional five-hour restriction until passing internal verification protocols.
The mid-tier Max plan ($100 per month) will continue to operate under a five-hour window, offering five times the standard Pro capacity.
The restructuring follows a series of updates initiated in 2025 designed to mitigate peak-hour bottlenecks and discourage unauthorized account sharing. The flexibility was met with swift approval from power users and software developers, with industry observers praising the move for unlocking prolonged coding sessions and complex research tasks without unexpected platform interruptions, even as speculation mounts regarding Anthropic’s next-generation model releases.
