High-flying artificial intelligence (AI) startup Upscale AI announced Token Fabric, an integrated hardware and software networking platform designed to allow data centers to seamlessly connect AI chips from multiple competing suppliers.
The launch targets a growing bottleneck in AI infrastructure, where operators struggle to combine diverse processors into a single, cohesive unit without complex custom integration. By stitching heterogeneous hardware together across a data center using open standards, Token Fabric aims to eliminate network delays and maximize hardware utilization.
Token Fabric combines Upscale’s proprietary networking chips, hardware incorporating NVIDIA Corp.’s Spectrum-X technology, and specialized management software. The integrated stack actively monitors system health, identifies bandwidth bottlenecks, and flags failing components before they cause downtime.
By preventing expensive AI processors from sitting idle while waiting for data transfers, the platform promises operators faster deployment times and better returns on capital-intensive hardware investments.
The company is betting on surging demand from neocloud providers and major hyperscalers building out multi-vendor environments. Kar projects Token Fabric to generate tens of millions of dollars in revenue next year, with the potential to reach low hundreds of millions as adoption scales.
Upscale plans a phased rollout starting in the fourth quarter with the release of its cluster-connecting technology, followed by a full platform deployment in stages through 2027.
The platform launch follows a period of rapid financial growth for the startup.
Backed by prominent industry players including NVIDIA, Salesforce Ventures, and Singapore’s state investor Temasek, Upscale secured a $190 million funding extension in June. Led by Premji Invest, the investment arm of Indian billionaire Azim Premji, the round valued the startup at $2 billion and pushed its total raised capital to $500 million.
As competition among chipmakers intensifies, Upscale’s unified networking approach places it at the center of the push for open, flexible AI infrastructure.
“AI infrastructure is driving unprecedented demand for high-performance, energy-efficient networking silicon,” said Lucas Tsai, vice president of New Strategic Engagements at TSMC North America. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with innovators like Upscale, leveraging TSMC’s leading-edge process and advanced packaging technologies as they deliver its innovative AI networking infrastructure solutions to the market.”
