IBM Corp. has integrated its artificial intelligence (AI) consulting platform into Microsoft Corp.’s suite of workplace applications, enabling thousands of consultants to access specialized AI tools without leaving programs like Word, Excel, and Teams.

The integration, announced at the Ignite conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, connects IBM Consulting Advantage with Microsoft Copilot across Microsoft 365 applications, including PowerPoint and Outlook. The move positions AI capabilities at the point of work, allowing IBM’s consulting workforce to automate critical tasks and enhance decision-making during client engagements, Mohamad Ali, senior vice president and head of IBM Consulting, said in a blog post.

IBM estimates integration has already generated savings equivalent to 250,000 hours annually, or approximately $35 million in new value, as consultants redirect that time toward revenue-generating activities. In one instance, consultants completed four information-gathering tasks in 13 minutes using the AI agents — a process that previously required nearly three hours.

The platform provides access to five specialized AI agents drawing from IBM’s proprietary resources. The Assets Agent helps identify AI tools for client work, while the IBM Institute for Business Value Agent delivers industry research and data insights. An Ask Offerings Agent provides information on IBM services like AI Integration and Customer Service Transformation to accelerate deployment.

Additional agents focus on strategic partnerships and client success stories. The Partnerships Agent generates executive-level insights on industry collaborations, particularly in AI and digital transformation. Meanwhile, the Ask WOW Stories Agent retrieves case studies demonstrating IBM’s track record in scaling AI implementations with clients.

IBM plans to expand the integration with a custom agent powered by ContextForge and IBM’s Model Context Protocol servers. This addition will automatically route consultants to the appropriate assistant, agent, or document collection based on their specific task requirements.

“Successful AI adoption depends on making AI easy to use within the processes and tools employees rely on every day,” Ali said.

The collaboration extends IBM and Microsoft’s longstanding strategic alliance, which is focused on accelerating digital transformation. Thousands of IBM consultants currently use the integrated platform, accessing IBM Consulting Advantage’s repository of assistants, assets, and applications directly through their standard Microsoft workflow tools.
