Adobe Inc.’s Firefly app for artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted content creation is sprouting new wings.
On Thursday, the company added several new models to the generative AI service, including image-generating models from Google and OpenAI, and the latest generation of its Firefly models for image and video generation.
The additions, announced at the Adobe Max conference in London on Thursday, represent the evolution of Firefly — first introduced in 2023 — into more of a front-end for GenAI.
Highlighting the news, Adobe released two new GenAI models, Firefly Image Model 4 and Firefly Image Model 4 Ultra. Adobe says Model 4 offers “lifelike quality” at 2K resolution with more camera angles, zooms and speeds than previous versions. The Ultra version enables rendering complex scenes that require precise detail, the company said.
Adobe also announced general availability of the Firefly Video Model, which was released in public beta in February. The model allows the creation of 1080p video clips from text prompts or images, as well as the modification of videos with camera shot compositions. Firefly Vector Model, which allows for text-to-vector graphics capability, is also now generally available.
Additionally, Adobe announced a new project, called Firefly Boards, a limitless digital canvas workspace. Artists can use it to create mood boards, storyboards or any form of creative planning. It boasts a Remix feature, which lets users select different images to combine. Firefly analyzes the photos, automatically writes a prompt, and generates image variations that combine elements and styles of the original images, according to Adobe.
The one interesting twist to London’s slew of news was the planned roll-out of third-party GenAI models that users can select to generate their images and videos, starting with OpenAI’s GPT-4o image-generation capabilities, Google’s Imagen 3 and Veo 2, and Black Forest Labs Inc.’s Flux 1.1 Pro. Adobe said it intends to integrate further models from the likes of Fal.ai, Ideogram, Luma, Pika. and Runway in the coming months.
Adobe users can get the new AI models, including the video model, with a Creative Cloud subscription.
